Mutual Funds That Were Heavy on Financials Feel Downdraft


With Wall Street in dire straits, many mutual-fund investors wonder just how many financial stocks they own.

There's no simple answer, even for investors that don't own any specialty "sector" funds designed to track the ups and downs of Wall Street or dividend-oriented funds that tended to load up on banking stocks because of their attractive yields.

What broad-based funds own "varies quite a bit," says Morningstar Inc. analyst David Kathman. "All the way from zero to 50%."
